Christmas in London The Winter Wonderland Guide

Thursday, 21 November 2019
Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland is the Christmas destination not to miss on your visit to London. Immerse yourself in all things festive at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. From 21st November, the park transforms into a glittering ice-rink, an array of thrilling rides and Christmas markets. It’s open every day except Christmas Day from 10am-10pm until 5th January 2020. We did our research and have put together the best bits and things you can’t miss with our guide to Winter Wonderland!

Entertainment at Winter Wonderland
With so much to see and do you will surely find an activity for everyone to enjoy. From amusement rides, ice skating, circus acts, magical ice kingdom and plenty more. Some of the bigger attractions are popular, so make sure to book in advance to guarantee the date and time that suits you.

Giant Observation Wheel
This slow-moving ride gives you the perfect opportunity not only to enjoy the Winter Wonderland view from above but London’s skyline too. This year Winter Wonderland is bringing a taller new wheel! Sit back and relax while enjoying the views from a height. For a more illuminated view, take a ride in the evening and watch the London sparkle in the festive season below you.  For extra privacy or for that once in a lifetime proposal, why not book a private pod and make it extra special!

Ice skating in Winter Wonderland
Head over to the open-air ice rink, the perfect place for beginners, advanced and little ones looking to practice their skating moves. If you wish to have more practice room, head over in the morning and for those looking for a more romantic setting in the evening you can enjoy a paired skate under the stars. The skating rink is made for all ages and is a fun activity to do with the family.

Zippos Circus
Bring the whole family along to a fun-packed, colourful and jaw-dropping circus experience. With a mixture of acrobats and skilled jugglers to clowning antics in under an hour, this event is the perfect length for big and little ones to enjoy a spectacular show.

Explore the Magical Ice Kingdom
This experience is perfect for all ages! The talented ice artists spend months creating these unique and mesmerising characters and scenes to tell a story. This year the Magical Kingdom is telling Charles Dickens traditional story of A Christmas Carol beautifully crafted in ice and snow.
The magical ice kingdom, as the name states, is set at -10C to ensure the ice is maintained at its coolest temperature. We recommend wrapping up in warm clothes while visiting this attraction to make the most of this experience. Advance booking is recommended for this attraction during weekends and school holidays.

Ice Kingdom
Santa Land
Visit Santa’s grotto and his workshop to meet some of the elves, as they get ready for Christmas Eve.
The little ones can meet Santa for free and receive a gift if they are not on the naughty list. This attraction is run on a first-come-first-served basis so make sure to plan your day.

Bar Ice
Take a step into an icy themed bar where everything is made of ice, a unique experience at Winter Wonderland. Make sure you wrap up warm before heading to this icy bar, a winter coat and gloves are provided on arrival to ensure you are still warm and cosy throughout the experience.
To keep you at the tip of your toes a free cocktail/mocktail is included in the price and is served in a pre-carved glass, so make sure to keep your gloves on. The Bar ice sessions are 20 minutes long, to avoid disappointment please book your tickets in advance.

Food and Drink in Winter Wonderland
Whether you are looking forward to sipping on warm hot chocolate with marshmallows or mulled wine, there is a huge selection of food and drink available at Winter Wonderland for the whole family.
There’s no better time to feast on some festive favourites; Bratwurst, flamed grilled chicken and roast pork while enjoying some live music in the Bavarian Village.
If you are a fan of all things sugary, you better keep space for dessert. Grab some freshly made churros, crepes with Nutella, candy floss, giant lollipops and plenty more.

Christmas Markets
Explore over 100 fairy-lit Bavarian stalls at Winter Wonderland offering everything from candles, scarves, jewellery, wooden carvings, sweets, chocolate, Christmas decorations and much more. Take advantage of the wide choice of gifts available to purchase for a loved one.

Winter Wonderland Market
Is Winter Wonderland Hyde Park suitable for children?
Yes, it is. There are plenty of things to see and do for the little ones. Hyde Park Corner and Marble Arch tube stations are the closest to the red gate family entrance. There are plenty of food and drink stalls available throughout the park from grab and go to heated sit-down restaurants. Most areas in Winter Wonderland are flat and level for families who travel with buggies. Father Christmas and his elves will welcome children to his grotto every day except Christmas Day, from 10am – 6pm, on a first-come-first-served basis.

Winter Wonderland Attractions
What is the best time to visit Winter Wonderland?
If you're hoping to avoid the crowds, try to visit Winter Wonderland during the week. Weekends and evenings are the most popular times. If you are travelling with children weekday mornings are the best to explore Winter Wonderland at a more leisurely pace.
