With the kids (and grand kids!) heading back to the classroom this month, why not nip away for the night, or even the weekend, to recharge your batteries and treat yourself after those busy summer holidays.

You and your ‘favourite other’ can enjoy an overnight Afternoon Tea experience with us here at The Cavendish from only £234 per room per night which includes a delicious breakfast as well as our famous Rosa Lewis Afternoon Tea served in the Mayfair Grill.

To add another level of decadence, simply upgrade to champagne!

So, if this tempts you to a night or two away, we’ve also found lots of other fantastic things to enjoy during September as the younger members of the family get back to the serious stuff at school.

London Open House

Who can resist a poke around places you don’t normally get to see? Between 4th & 12th September, a wide range of walking tours, events and open buildings are taking place across the capital as part of Open House London 21. With the themes of supporting key workers, protecting culture and at risk 20th century buildings, this is your opportunity to take in some of London’s lesser known architectural sites as well as some more well- known ones. For a full list of places and tours go to www.openhouselondon.open-city.org.uk

And who knew that Jimi Hendrix lived next door to George Frideric Handel. Well it’s true. Just a wall and 200 years separate the two musicians, famous for very different styles of music, although both chose London as their home. The Handel and Hendrix museum sited on Brook Street offers you the opportunity to see how two very diverse musicians lived and is only a short walk away from The Cavendish. As the museum is about to undergo a mission to complete Handel’s House – The Hallelujah Project, named after Handel’s most famous composition – it will close from 23rd September until March 2023 so this month is your last opportunity to visit for a while.

However, if music is your thing, there are a number of concerts taking place around the capital including the BBC’s ‘Proms in the Park’ in Hyde Park on Saturday 11th September – a quick internet search will throw up artists, dates and venues for you to check out.

Still Arting about…

The brilliant Art of London season finishes at the end of this month but there’s still plenty of time to see the colourful road installations around nearby Piccadilly and take part in the Augmented Reality Art Gallery. This is an amazing way to experience art and explore the streets of London’s West End beyond the gallery walls via a free app on your smartphone. Featuring works from London’s leading institutions including the Royal Academy and Sky Arts portrait artist of the year, wander at your own pace and discover what the art gallery of the future could look like!

As part of ‘Let’s Do London’ season, the Let’s Do London Lates has just launched to showcase all the amazing things to do in the capital after the sun goes down. From clubbing to Opera, late night museum openings to Shakespeare, world class actors, DJs, musicians and artists are supporting and celebrating the re-opening of the capital’s world-famous nightlife. There is something for everyone with collaborations that deliver the hottest tickets in town. Check out www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/nightlife/things-to-do-late-in-london for the best things to do after dark.

Finding that festival vibe

If you’re still a festival goer at heart, the Underbelly festival continues until 26th September in Cavendish Square, just off Oxford Street. Billed as a mixture of comedy, music, cabaret and family entertainment, it also offers premium street food and drink and revels in its iconic status of being London’s original pop-up festival.

Book affordable tickets for live entertainment in the Spiegeltent or simply wander in at your leisure to take in the atmosphere and enjoy something to eat or drink at the many outside spaces. For a full list of shows, visit the online box office at www.underbellyfestival.com.

Between 18-26th September, Mayfair is also one of the design districts for the London Design Festival acting as a host for a cluster of events all within a short walking distance of one another. Promoting London as the design capital of the world, the festival is in its 19th year with landmark projects (major installations from some of the world’s best designers) and festival commissions appearing partnership with the V&A museum, cutting-edge furniture, lighting and interiors will make up some of the elements of ‘Design London’. Check out www.londondesignfestival.com for the latest info.

If we’ve managed to whet your appetite for a visit this September, don’t forget to book direct for the best priced rooms and take advantage of our Afternoon Tea experience for you and that someone special.

We look forward to welcoming you and providing the ideal base from which you can explore and enjoy the capital at your leisure – see you soon!
