5 Reasons to Visit London in August

Here are our 5 reasons to visit London this month of August. Click on the titles of each event for more information.

Notting Hill Carnival in London

Reason 1 - The Notting Hill Carnival in Notting Hill, London.
28th - 29th August 2011

Join the approximately 1 million revellers and 40 thousand volunteers that make West London streets come alive with music, dance and hot Caribbean food. Notting Hill Carnival dates back from 1964 and takes place on the August Bank Holiday, Saturday and Monday. Saturday is for the kids & families and Monday is mostly for adults. Streets tend to get incredibly busy during the celebration, so don't come if you don't like crowds!

Great British Beer Festival

Reason 2 - The CAMRA British Beer Festival, London.
2nd to 6th August 2011

The CAMRA British Beer Festival is the biggest beer festival in Britain, and the place to go for those who appreciate a quality pint. Besides the traditional British lagers, there will be a huge selection of real ales, perries, ciders, and beers from around the world. Also, you will be able to play traditional pub games, sample food, and take part in tutored tastings. Hat Day is on the Thursday 4th August and is a lot of fun, visitors are encouraged to bring (and wear!) a funny looking hat they've either made or are very fond of.

Reason 3 - Brit Floyd at the O2, London.
2nd August 2011

Officialy presented as the Pink Floyd tribute show, Brit Floyd has been wowing audiences all over Europe with their great musicianship and visual effects. Recreating the atmosphere of the great progressive rock band of the 70's, Brit Floyd has been welcome by audiences and critics alike, so much so, that they have decided to add dates to the tour in Brussels, Luxembourg, Italy and Spain. The music as well as the visual effects from the original Pink Floyd shows have been recreated, and the 60ft teacher inflatable is a hit with the audiences!

Buckingham Palace Summer Opening

Reason 4 - Buckingham Palace Summer Opening, London.
23rd July - 3rd October 2011

It's this time of the year again when the Queen makes her annual visit to Scotland, and the State Apartments in Buckingham Palace are open to the public. The State Apartments at Buckingham Palace are the working core of the palace and host various official ceremonies and state occasions. You will also be able to visit the Royal Mews, which are the working stables of the palace. Become a witness of life in Royalty this summer at Buckingham Palace. The palace is a mere 10 minutes' walk from The Cavendish London.

Afternoon Tea at The Cavendish London

Reason 5 - Staying at The Cavendish London

The Cavendish London is an amazing place for a great summer break in the city. We are in a privileged location in the centre of London, just a few minutes' walk from Piccadilly Circus, Green Park and Buckingham Palace. If you're willing to visit the Summer Opening of the palace, we are a great option to stay in. We are also within walking distance to Leicester Square and the West End, which makes catching a musical easy and convenient. If the choice of restaurants, musicals, nightclubs and cinemas makes you dizzy (we don't blame you!), contact our Head Concierge on and he'll be happy to help!
