Happy Fathers Day from the Cavendish London

  • by CavendishLondon

Celebrated in the UK in June every year, Father's day is in honour of Fatherhood and male parenting throughout the world, although dates vary from country to country.   The day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane, Arkansas in 1910, after hearing about Mother's Day in 1909.   It wasn't until 1966 when President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June to be the permanent national day to honour fathers and male parenting.

Did you know: The Summer Solstice and Father's day occur around the same time of the year. In fact, in some paganism religions, The Sun is seen as the Father of the Universe.

Interesting Fact: In Germany Father's Day or Männertag (Men's Day) is celebrated rather differently. Instead of the usual giving of presents, Fathers spend the day getting drunk and drinking from beer wagons.

Top tip: The most popular father's day present is a good old fashioned tie.
