A Guest Finds a Piece of History

One of the pleasures of this job is meeting our guests, and they often chat to me about their connections to the hotel over the years, and the fact that different members of their families have been returning to the hotel for generations.

One of our guests yesterday, from Austin, Texas very kindly gave me a copy of the London Weekly Diary of Social Events for July 6th - July 12th 1925, which published weekly and given to all guests at The Cavendish on a weekly basis. His great grandfather had been staying here on business from the US and he found the booklet in papers and wanted to return it to the hotel. The weekly diary was a precursor of the TimeOut London, and it gives a fascinating insight into what was happening in London that week and the advertising is mainly for Cruise Lines like the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, the French Line from Plymouth to New York and a full page ad for the Royal Typewriters. Please find a copy of some of the pages attached, and please post a message if you would like to have the full booklet in electronic format.
