The History of The Cavendish

The Cavendish being situated in St James's on Jermyn Street and a few minutes walk from St James's Palace has an interesting history and the hotel is built on the site of The Cavendish which was run by Rosa Lewis, on which the TV series The Duchess of Duke Street was based. A number of guests have sent in emails asking a question or their family connection with the hotel. I had the idea of commissioning a short history for our guests and we have just received them the booklets back from the printers. It is illustrated with some fascinating pictures taken in the 1920's of the original hotel and is beautifully written by Nicholas Redman. I met Nicholas when he was the Archivist for Whitbread Plc a company founded over 250 years ago, and is the world expert in Whale Bones but that is another story.

If you are interested in a copy of The History of The Cavendish Hotel you can download one from our website or send a stamped self addressed A5 envelope to me at the hotel and I will send you a copy
