Boris Bike Scheme Opens to Everyone

The Barclays Cycle Hire scheme in London launched in July 2010, and it had a very warm reception, achieving the millionth journey just about ten weeks after it started. In my humble opinion, the system was very good, but the only problem was that I never got around to filling in the form, paying the yearly fee, waiting for my electronic key to arrive, etc, etc.

The solution to my problem was that since the 3rd December 2010, the Barclays sponsored scheme has opened to all users, without the need of becoming a yearly member. I was very excited to hear that, and decided to give it a try last week after work. I was very impressed with the quality of the bikes (apparently made in Canada!) and the smooth operation of the whole system. It was only about two minutes since I decided to hire a bike to the time that I was riding it (I decided to skip the 45-page terms & conditions!) and had a jolly good time!

The charges are designed to promote a high circulation of bikes, since the first half an hour is free, but charges rise rapidly thereafter. This makes the scheme very appropriate for shorter journeys.

These changes mean that visitors to the Capital can now enjoy the system (as long as they have a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card) as well as Londoners, and hopefully will increase the appeal to our already great city. I thoroughly recommend the system and will certainly be a great user of the scheme in the foreseeable future.

The closest docking station to The Cavendish London is on St. James's Square, just 2 minutes walk from us and you can contact me for any questions related to this scheme and we will be more than happy to help.
