London is always bustling with activities, and for the past month or so, Christmas festivities have been in full swing. From walking along Oxford, Regent, and Jermyn Street to observe and soak in the Christmas atmosphere with Christmas displays shining brightly, to the Christmas markets in Leicester Square and Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. Christmas in London is truly a magical period; even restaurants near Regent Street and Mayfair in general are all serving festive set menus.

With January up and coming, The Cavendish team will be sharing three of our personal favourite events in London for the first two weeks of the new year, for you to enjoy London to the fullest.

1)   New Year’s Day Parade

Perhaps one of the most iconic events in London, London’s New Year’s Day parade brings together over 8,500 performers with attendance records of over 500,000 people.

The parade will start at 12 noon outside Green Park tube station, which is located about 100 metres away from The Cavendish London, and is expected to end at about 3.30pm at Westminster (Big Ben). Many roads around the area will be closed, hence our head concierge, Richard Jenkins, suggests that you arrive early to beat the crowd and take advantage of one of the nice brunches served at the many restaurants in town before the show starts.

2)   Farewell to Christmas at Geffrye Museum

The Geffrye Museum in Shoreditch holds the annual Christmas past which transforms the entire museum into an exhibition that shows how Christmas has been celebrated in English homes over the past 400 years, since the 1600’s. On the 6th of January, which is the 12th day of Christmas, the museum will celebrate the last day of Christmas with traditional burning of the holly and the ivy, carol singing, and a taste of mulled wine and Twelfth night cake.

Event Details

Location: Geffrye Museum. 136 Kingsland Rd, London E2 8EA

Time & Date: 6th January 2017. From 3:30pm to 5:00pm

3)   Virtually Real at the Royal Academy of Arts

The Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly will be kicking off 2017 with collaboration between virtual reality platform HTC Vive and the Royal Academy Schools on the 12th to 14th of January.

The artists, who will consist of the Academies graduates and students, will be producing artworks that can interact with visitors and enable visitors to observe the creative process from beginning to end with the HTC Vive’s playback technology. Visitors will also have the chance to create their own virtual masterpiece artworks.

The full virtual reality exhibition will cost £45 and is inclusive of a free drink on arrival!

So what are you waiting for! Go out, enjoy these events and tell us what you think!
